Nestled in a small part of the eastern part of the state, lays a small town that many may not even know exists. You hear the name and go no way that it can’t be real since it has been a popular game on Facebook for many years.
Farmville NC was first settled in the mid-1760s and incorporated on February 12, 1872. The town developed into a small commercial center supporting agriculture brought by the Brightleaf Tabaco cultivation. Two Hundred and sixty-four years later this small town is full of activity and small businesses.
From restaurants like Café Madeleine which serves authentic pastries, desserts, breads, and wines prepared daily. Farmville Pizza whose owners moved from Italy to create authentic Italian food. To the one and only Little Rocket which has become a town staple. Each of these unique eateries is just one of the small ways this town will impact you.
What else does this small-town offer that makes it unique?
Small businesses like Lanoca Coffee, and Vintage Point or take a step back in time and visit the local hardware store Farmville Hardware.
Stop in and visit the NC Furniture School or the ECU Glass station.
Or how about visiting the May Museum which sends you back in time to highlight traditional farm life from days gone by.
What about the famous Paramount Theater located on the main street. This location has been the home of the Farmville Arts Council for over 40 years. You can catch a local play, musician, or even sometimes a unique visual art show.
And before you head off to your next destination stop by one of the many nature trails or play a round of disc golf.
And if you are visiting in April the Dogwood festival has been an active part of this busy community for 34 years. Bringing small businesses shows, rides, and entertainment over a three-day period that brings over 30,000 people to this small town each year. This year the dates are April 24-28th.
Small towns across the state bring all kinds of similar activities and without the support of locals and those traveling through they would not be thriving like they are today. The sense of family given out in so many small towns in North Carolina are like nothing you will ever experience. So be sure that the next time you are on a trip you take just a few minutes out of the day to stop by and take in the culture that many of these towns have to offer.
